Het kleed past ons niet!

 

 

 

 

 

 

We zijn halfweg het parcours als we even de tijd nemen om het één en ander op een rijtje te zetten. Wat betreft het fotofestival in Arles en het moet gezegd, tot nu toe was het geen grote klepper van formaat. Geen fotografie waar men 1000 km verder speciaal voor moet rijden. We hebben het vooral over de binnenstad waar Christian Lacroix, de bekende mode fotograaf zijn “invités” mocht presenteren. Daar zijn natuurlijk enkele bekende namen tussen zoals Peter Lindbergh, Paolo Roversi, Richard Avedon, Catherina Jebb, Jerome Puch, Henri Roger …

Outward Expressions, Inward Reflections

The Modern Chinese Art Foundation presents ‘Outward Expressions, Inward Reflections’, originally a showcase for four young China-based photographers which was launched March 1st, 2008 by Three Shadows Photography Centre in Beijing.

The exhibition in Ghent, hosted by MCAF focuses on the work of photographer Adou, born in 1973 in Mianyang, Sichuan Province.

Audrey Corregan

One of the selected photographers at Hyères 2008 is Audrey Corregan, upcoming talent and living at Amsterdam. In her work “Obviously”, she shows impressive pictures of birds photographed from behind. Her backward portraits of birds reminds me of the reversed portraits by Marjaana Kella.

At this moment there is an interesting exhibition at the “Team Gallery” in New York by the New York based photographer Ryan McGinley. I love the way some pictures shows the body and its relationship to nature.

Zesde Fotobiënnale in Luik

Op de Fotobiënnale in Luik tonen bijna vijftig hedendaagse fotografen hun kijk op de wereld. Een goede gelegenheid om stil te staan bij het aanzien van die wereld – en bij de stand van zaken in de fotografie.

Territoria. Dat is het thema van de Zesde Internationale Biënnale van Fotografie en Beeldende Kunsten in Luik. Het is een brede paraplu waar heel veel onder past. Vijf deeltentoonstellingen op verschillende locaties in de stad, ieder voor zich al van volwassen omvang, belichten verschillende aspecten van het thema. Jonge en gevestigde fotografen uit alle windstreken geven hun kijk op de mens in zijn dagelijkse omgeving, op de stad en ommelanden en op de grote wereld van oorlog en machtspolitiek. Hoe breed de paraplu ook is, het valt niet mee iedereen eronder te houden, maar er is veel moois te zien in Luik.

“Correspondence” by Paul Greenleaf

The ongoing series Correspondence, combines ‘found’ photography with new photographic work. An initial discovery of old postcards at Greenwich market inspired Paul to retrace and photograph the depicted locations.

‘I aim to highlight how the land has changed physically, by neglect, ‘development’ or sometimes coastal erosion, and the way the landscape has changed culturally, illustrating changing trends. The work exposes clichés within these rose-tinted tourist towns and offers a modern day alternative to the picturesque.

60 Jaar MAGNUM Photos

Het Stedelijk Museum CS (Amsterdam) presenteert een overzicht van fotoagentschap en persbureau MAGNUM dat in 2007 60 jaar bestaat.
Opening: donderdag 7 februari van 17.00-19.00 uur, Stedelijk Museum CS

MAGNUM levert tot op heden foto’s die zich wereldwijd verankerd hebben in het collectieve geheugen, zoals de beelden van de intocht van het Russische leger in Praag, 1968 en de demonstraties op het Plein van de Hemelse Vrede in Beijing, 1989. In de tentoonstelling is per jaar de geschiedenis van MAGNUM zichtbaar aan de hand van foto’s, boeken en teksten en kan het publiek werk zien van 83 fotografen, waaronder Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Carl de Keyzer, Martin Parr, Susan Meiselas en Leonard Freed.
